The company’s main business is the manufacture and sale of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles and energy storage systems. CATL supplies a large number of automotive manufacturers around the globe and has ranked 1st in global market share rankings for 7 consecutive years.

Since 2019, CATL has been developing and expanding their plant at Erfurter Kreuz in Thuringia. The Contemporary Amperex Technology Thuringia GmbH (CATT) works as the European hub for CATLs global operations, including local production, R&D and testing. It’s battery plant supplies German automotive suppliers with batteries produced in Thuringia.

Thuringia's central location in the heart of Europe and it’s good and growing infrastructure enable CATL to produce close to their customers – thus driving customer relationships, innovation through joint projects and development of industry standards - while saving CO2 and transport costs through local optimization. CATL promotes research and further development of battery technology by means of global and local cooperation. The plant at Erfurter Kreuz houses the biggest certified testing facility of its kind in Europe, enabling customers from around their world to measure their products and verify battery performance metrics.
