The company is active in mechanical and plant engineering. It was founded in 1852 and developed the world's first cleaning machine in the same year. Today, the demands placed on seed have become far more sophisticated: Precision and perfection are the buzzwords of the day, and cleaning alone is no longer enough. Instead, the smallest differences in weight, fungal and pest infestation, as well as discoloration and deformation, which must be detected so that germination is not impaired, are among the greatest challenges. That is why PETKUS is constantly developing new innovations and is today the only company in the industry that, in addition to its traditional design and development department, has a subsidiary dedicated exclusively to the research and development of new technologies - the Röber Institute. This thinking is also reflected in the claim "Strong Seed. Healthy Grain." - with the goal: maximum germination capacity, i.e. to obtain 100 plants from 100 seeds. 

At the Röber Institute, engineers and scientists from various technical and scientific faculties develop optical image recognition technologies, biological seed hygienization processes, and data acquisition, quality monitoring and management systems. In recent years, the company has introduced numerous innovations to the market, such as the "S Cleaner", which digitally analyzes the grain and seed cleaning process, or the "HySeed bio", which kills bacteria and fungi on the seed using only hot steam and thus does not require any chemicals at all.

All in all, PETKUS is active around the topic of seeds. The company not only develops cleaning machines, but is also at home in sorting, coating, drying and storage technology. In addition to classic mechanical engineering, complete seed plants, mobile plants, grain silo terminals or grain port facilities are also developed and produced. The company is based in Wutha-Farnroda, less than 10 kilometers southeast of Eisenach.
