Furthermore, SIOS develops and manufactures laser interferometric and other precision measuring instruments for calibration and nanometrology. The products measure a wide variety of quantities such as length, angle, vibration, straightness, mass and force - with the highest resolution and very low measurement uncertainty. In addition, SIOS is one of the most important European suppliers of stabilized He-Ne lasers as metrological light sources with highly stable wavelengths. 

The company develops precision measurement technology for scientific institutes and research centers as well as for industrial applications. While the focus in the early years was primarily on scientific institutions and testing institutes, science and industry are now equally important. Today, the technology is used in numerous industries: Mechanical engineering, optics and semiconductor industry, medical technology, nano metrology, geoscience, calibration and many more. To this end, SIOS works closely with the Technical University of Ilmenau and the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt - no surprise when you consider that 28% of the employees are scientists. However, measurement technology is not only used in the various industries, but also within a company itself in a variety of ways: for example, in quality control, calibration, vacuum and clean rooms, or in metrological assemblies. The technology is supported by the company's own appropriate metrology software.

Representatives of the company extend across all continents to act as local contacts - a total of 23 in more than 21 countries. Since its history grew directly out of Ilmenau Technical University, it is hardly surprising that the company's headquarters are located exactly where its story began more than 30 years ago: a two-kilometer walk from the Technical University in Ilmenau.
